Title Hpu du masha tai (The logger) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a lumberjack in a village. He didn't have anyone to help him cut the trees into logs. A few years ago, he sold trees with his friends. Later, he cut the trees into logs. And he didn't have any friends. He tied a saw to a log and cut the fallen trees little by little every day. He cut the trees into logs every day. Then, the log which he tied a saw had eyes the next day. When he went there to cut the trees the following day, the log he tied the saw had ears too. Later, it had a human shape. One day, the log he tied the saw spoke to him, "Since you don't have any friends, I help you cut the trees. You have many troubles, so I will help you one more time. I am here to help you." The log became a human. The person told the lumberjack, "I will come to you tomorrow." The next day, the lumberjack was waiting for him. But he didn't show up. Then, the lumberjack thought, "Why didn't he come? Did I do wrong to him?" He walked around to find him. He saw a cornfield somewhere in the forest. At that time, he heard a voice say, "Work at this cornfield and live here. Grow corns for your living." Since then, he didn't see the log again. It turned out that the log, which became a person, knew how to grow corn well. The lumberjack became Lisu, one of the ethnic groups in Kachin. So, Lisu people grow corn very well.
