Title Lanyau chau hpa (The cat Chyau Hpa) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
This is the brave cat. Once upon a time, there was a middle-class man in a village. He had a cat. The cat listened to its owner and followed him everywhere. It did everything to help its owner. It always helped its owner. However, the cat became older and older day after day. Its appearance was not as beautiful as before. It was slowly losing its fur. Then, its owner didn't want to care and feed him. The owner said, "It's even difficult for me to eat three meals a day. You become weak and ugly. I can't feed you anymore." He decided to abandon the cat somewhere in the forest. When he left home after abandoning the cat, the cat didn't follow him. It just stayed exactly where he left it. After a few hours, the cat went back. But it didn't go into the house because it knew its owner would be annoyed. It thought, "What should I do now? I am so hungry. My owner will be so angry if I go into the house now. What should I do?" After thinking for a while, it got an idea. It thought, "I should go to the granary. There are lots of mice there. I will kill all those mice. If I don't, the mice will eat every grain." Then it went to the granary and pretended to be dead. Soon, many mice came out from everywhere. They said, "Look! The cat that is chasing us is dead now." They were so happy and discussing what to do with the dead cat. Finally, they got the idea. They said, "Let's carry the dead cat and bury it at a faraway place." They were working together to carry the cat. Some mice were digging a big hole to bury the cat. The place where they were digging the hole was on a sandbank. They planned to bury the cat at the sandbank. When they were about to throw the dead cat into the hole, the cat suddenly awoke and walked. The mice were shocked and ran away. Since it was the sandbank, it was difficult for the mice to run quickly. They couldn't run fast. The cat bit every single mouse and put them in the bamboo cart that they used to carry the cat before. It pushed it to its place. And it thought, "My owner won't feed me anymore. But it's alright. I will just eat mice." Then there was no mouse in its owner's granary. There was no mouse to destroy the grain because of the cat. The cat became fat and beautiful after fulfilling its hunger.
