Title Jan jahku pru ai lam (The nine suns) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Many years ago, there was no darkness on this earth. We lived under the sunlight from nine suns around us. Humans also had tails like monkeys. However, people nagged and complained about the hot temperature. They said, "We couldn't survive if it is too hot. There is no chance to survive." Then they had a meeting about how to do it. They were discussing how to drive the suns away. After their meeting, some started making arrows to go along with their decision. After preparing everything, they started shooting the suns. They used various swords and attacked them. So, the suns didn't shine their light on them. The king of the suns hid his suns. He was angry at humans, so he hid his suns. The whole earth was in the dark. People couldn't see any light, so they couldn't keep calm. Everything was so difficult for them. It was hard for them to find food, to travel and to work. They were thinking that it was not good for them. Then they had another meeting. They said, "We should bring the sun back for our earth. This is not good." Then they collected some money and other things to bring the sun back. After collecting those, they went to the Sunland to ask to give the sun back. The king of the Sunland said, "It was you who drove the suns away, so I can't send the sun to your earth again. I won't open the sun land gate! However, if you want it so bad, I can give you one. But you will have to pay for it." The king told them to go back. People were discussing, "We really need some valuable things to buy the sun. We should ask everyone to give some valuable things they have." Then people cut their tails to but the sun. The coccyx on the human body is the place where the tail is cut. In the past, horses had horns. They took their horns off to buy the sun, too. The bat said, "I am just a bird. I will give you when you collect things from birds." In the past, dogs also had horns. The dog said, "I had already given my horns to the goat. I don't have anything to give you. This tail is used to welcome my owners. It shows the happiness. I have nothing to give you." People kept collecting valuable things to give to the king of the Sunland. When birds were collecting the things, the bat said, "I am in mouse species. I don't need to sunbathe too. I think I don't need to pay." Since the bat didn't give anything to buy the sun, it needed to stay in the dark. It couldn't stay under the sunlight. It couldn't see anything in the sun either. After collecting so many things, people went to the Sunland to buy the sun. Then the king opened his sun land gate. Only one sun is shining on the earth today. While everyone was sunbathing, the frog said, "Let me sunbathe too." They told it, "You didn't pay anything to buy the sun, so you can't stay under the sunlight." Then the frog with a big belly left to the west unwillingly. People told the chickens, "You have sharp ears. You always know first when the sun rises. Let us know when the sun rises." The sun rises from the east and goes down to the west. We can get sunlight even in the evening. Then one of the frogs said, "Take a look! There is the sun over there." People told it, "You can't get the sunlight! You didn't pay anything to buy the sun." They kept pinching it. So it has bumpy skin on its body.
