Title Matsan Ai Gaida Yan Woi Dwi | The Poor Grandmother and Her Grandchild
Description Translation (Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai & Keita Kurabe)
The story I will tell now is "The Tale of the Poor Grandmother and Her Grandchild." Long ago, there was a very poor widow and her grandchild. There were no other grandchildren. They lived in poverty, just the two of them. They owned nothing at all. As they were living in this way, One day, at their home, An elderly man with white hair came and stayed with them. When he stayed with them like this, the old man said to them, "Do you have a rooster?" When he asked this, although they had no animals, wanting to treat their guest well, The grandmother answered, "Yes, we do." While the old man wasn't looking, she went to borrow a rooster from a neighbor and cooked it at night to serve it to the old man. When the cooking was finished, she placed a bundle of rice and the cooked rooster in a basket and left it in the room where the old man was staying. That night, the old man stayed at the grandmother and grandchild's house. After staying there like that, the next morning, as dawn broke, when the grandmother and grandchild entered the room, the old man was already gone. The bundle of rice they had prepared was left just as it was. Wondering why he hadn't eaten it, they opened the bundle of rice. Inside, instead of rice, there was a lump of gold. From that day onward, the two became wealthy. That is why, no matter who comes to us, no matter how poor they may be, no matter how shabby the guest may seem, if someone visits us, no matter how poor we ourselves may be, we must serve them as best as we can.
