Title Yu rim ai hkanghkyi a sak sum ai (Fox that wants to be a lion) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The title of the story I am going to tell is 'a lion which caught a mouse lost his life'. Once upon a time, there was a lion in a forest. And there was a fox which lived near the lion. As the lion was the king of the animals, he could easily get the meal for him. The lazy fox lived like a parasite to him. It was because the fox didn't want to find the food by himself. He ate only the leftover of the lion. He was satisfied with that. So, he always stayed near the lion. After some days and weeks, his thought was changed. He thought to himself, "Now, I can eat the leftover of the lion easily and without doing hard work. If I could eat the heart of the lion, I will be a lion and could catch the animals easily. But now, I am getting thinner and thinner because I could eat only the leftover of him. I will try hard to be able to eat the lion's heart." One fine day, the lion went out to find his food. While he was eating his meal, a little mouse stole one small piece of meat from the lion's meal. And she took it into her burrow. The fox saw that and told the lion, "There! A mouse took your meat." Then, the lion said, "How much meat a mouse can take!? Let it take the meat. It's okay." Soon, the mouse came back again and took another piece. The fox said, "My Lord, you didn't take any action on that mouse. You always said 'let it be'. But how shall we do if the mouse gets used to and keeps coming here to take meat?" When the fox kept telling about it many times, the lion was angry with the mouse too. So, the lion tried to catch the mouse as soon as she went into the burrow. He put his hand inside the mouse's burrow to catch her. There was a stone inside the burrow too. When the lion put his hand inside the hole hard, his claws were hit with that stone strongly. His claws were broken off. He was hurt and shouted, "Ouch! My claws are broken off." At that time, the fox said, "Don't worry, my Lord! We can go to the owl, the medico, to get treatment. He can join your claws back." The lion totally believed what the fox said. And he bent his body in order to pick his broken claws up from the mouse's burrow. While he was picking his claws, the fox took one big stone and hit hard on his head. The lion was dead. When the lion died, the fox scratched and cut the dead lion. And he ate the heart of the lion. After that, he thought to himself, "I will be a lion now because I ate the lion's heart." Then, he imitated the lion and walked like a lion. He walked out of the forest. He kept walking and walking. Then, he reached the plain area. There was a big rock too. And it was really high. He went towards that big rock. There were many foxes there too. He walked like a lion near the other foxes. But he walked past them. He just walked past the foxes which were the same species like him. He went towards the big rock and sat on it like a lion. The other foxes felt surprised and told each other, "The fox which is the same species like us didn't talk to us. Why?" After some time, he came down from the big rock and walked past his friends. They asked him, "My friend, where are you going?" "I am not your friend anymore. I am a lion now because I have had the heart of the lion," he said. The other foxes didn't say anything to him. Then, he walked past them. He reached another forest. He was spending his time there and sat on a fallen tree again. He sat there like the way the lion sat. After a while, a group of lions came near him. They saw him sitting there. But they didn't say any words to each other. After some time, he produced his voice to roar like a lion. When he roared like a lion, only the sound of the fox was made. Then the other lions asked him, "Why are you trying to roar like a lion?" "I am a lion now, so I roar like a lion. I have eaten the lion's heart. So, my body will change into the lion's body soon," he answered. The other lions asked him, "Then, roar one more time." So, he roared again. But only the fox's voice had come out. The other lions were so angry. And they said angrily, "You! Such a small fox wants to be a lion? You ate the lion's heart?" Then they killed the fox. At last, the fox lost his life because he wanted to be a lion and pretended like a lion.
