Description	Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The title of the story I am going to tell you now is 'An old fisherman'. Once upon a time, there was an old man who always caught fish. He always caught fish in a natural pool. He caught fish of all sizes, small and big. He sold some of them and ate some. He made a living in that way. He spent his day just catching fish there. Later, he went fishing at a different pool, not the one he usually went fishing at. One day, he was catching fish the whole day, but he couldn't even get a single big fish. He caught only one small fish. He was depressed that day. He said to himself, "I couldn't catch any fish to sell, and I have nothing to eat either." Then he took that small fish and went back home. At that moment, it said to him, "Old man, please let me go. Have mercy on me and put me back in the water. I am so small. Come catch me when I am bigger." He said to the fish, "You are just lying to me. If I release you now, you will swim away." The small fish said, "I am not lying to you. I won't swim away. You can catch me when I am bigger. I will come to you to be caught." The old man trusted it and put it back into the pool. He went back home empty-handed. After some time, he thought, "That fish might not have grown bigger yet." So he waited a long time to catch it. Later, he thought, "It should be bigger by now." And he went fishing there. He caught a big fish that day. He said to himself, "The little fish was right. It said I would catch a big fish." He was happy and went back home. The next time he went fishing, he caught the little fish again. He decided, "I will put it back in the water and catch it when it is bigger." He kept the fish when it was big and put it back if it was small. Thanks to the request of the first small fish, the other little fish were spared. Actually, the big fish the man caught was the same little fish he had caught before. However, the other small fish were spared thanks to that first one. Transcription (La Ring) Ya bai tsun na maumwi gabaw gaw nga dawn ai dingla langai mi a maumwi re. Collection title	Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description	Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of a community-based collaborative fieldwork project in northern Myanmar. As of January 14, 2026, the collection includes 2,491 stories, 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,780 translations. Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Translations were prepared by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
