Title Num 7 lu ai la langai (Man who had seven wives) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
I am now telling a story about a man who had seven wives. A long time ago, a man created trouble for his wives whenever he married one. All his wives could not stand him, so they left him and returned to their homes. The last wife, the seventh wife, followed his desire and made sure not to be angry. When he returned from work, she checked what he liked and wanted. She followed what he loved to do. Even though he was so angry, she lowered herself and eased his anger. The husband thought about beating his wife until she ran away. "I had already had six wives before, and we fought with each other all the time. Let's see how with this one," he thought to himself. "This wife satisfies me, and I do not beat her once. She let me stay with her like this." "I will make sure to beat her today," he conceived. He went fishing. He brought fish alive. After that, "'I can hit this woman this time," he thought. He put the live fish in a pot and said, "Cook these fish deliciously." He expected that when his wife took the fish out, either she would hurt herself with the fish's thorn or the fish would jump out of the pot. If this thing happened, he could find ways to beat his wife. He set this scene. Then he poured fish into the pot and said, "Cook fish curry." His wife took the bank and covered it with its lid nicely. Then she put salt and covered it firmly. Due to the salt, fish tossed soundly inside the pot. She shook it a little bit and a little bit. When the salt thoroughly spread to all fish, they all calmed their writhing sound after a while. His wife took the fish pleasantly and cut and washed them well. Hereafter, she cooked the fish as he liked. He was amazed, "I had six wives. I beat and quarreled with them every day." "This wife is so clever and knows things well, so I will not beat her from now on. I will not be angry at her as well as not afflict her anymore." He decided himself and said to his wife, "My children's mom, I had lived with six wives before. Even though you are the seventh wife," "I had made many troubles with the previous wives." "We quarreled and fought with each other a lot. But you don't have any reason to beat you once and lead this marriage. So I will live with you without any afflictions and making troubles," "until we get old and depart our lives." He promised his wife. The husband repented and stayed with his wife peacefully from that day onwards.
