Title Grai kin ai num (The busy woman) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was the busiest woman. She had a child. She had to leave her child at home and went to work. She was busy all the time. (One day), on her way to work, she saw a beggar. She thought to herself, "Oh, there is a beggar over there." The beggar was on the opposite side of the road. (This was the way to her work.) When she found the beggar, she thought about giving him some money. She looked for some money in her pocket and thought to herself, "I should help him. I feel pity for him." There were many pedestrians crossing the road, so she couldn't go past them. She had to cross many railways and motorways to get to the beggar. As she was getting late, she couldn't give him any money. She thought, "I will give him when I come back home this evening." In the evening, she went back home using the road on the same side where the beggar was. But she didn't see the beggar she saw this morning. She said, "Is that beggar on the other side of the road?" She tried to find him, but he was not there too. She just went back home with the thought, "I will definitely find and give him some money tomorrow." The next morning, she found him there. She found him sitting in the same spot. So she crossed the road to give him some money. But by the time she reached that side, the beggar had already moved to the other side of the road. Then she couldn't give any money to him that day too. One of her friends said to her, "We are going to be late." Then she couldn't give him anything because she was too busy. She thought, "I will definitely find him and give him some money this evening." When it was evening, she returned home the same way the beggar had been. But the beggar was not there. He was on the other side. Then she thought, "What should I do to give him some money? I will definitely give him some money tomorrow." She went there the next day when she went to work. When she went to the same side of the road where he sat, he wasn't there. Then the next day, she thought, "I will make sure to give him some money today." But they were always standing opposite. She became impatient and said, "I couldn't give him any money again today! Once everyone crosses the road, I will run to him and give him some money." After everyone had crossed the road, she couldn't find the beggar too. She was upset. At night, she thought, "What kind of person is he? When I finally had time to find him, he was out of my sight. Is someone sending me the signal to teach me something? Why do we always miss the mark?" She felt upset.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,564 translations are currently available (March 6, 2025). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
