Title Hpang num gaw myit su (The wise stepmother) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, a man remarried after his first wife was dead. The child of the first wife was not very young. At that time, there was a measles outbreak in their village. It was severe. So the second wife tried to find a treatment to cure the measles. Her own child was still so young. She let him walk. And she carried the first wife's child on her back. They went to find the treatment. While they were on their way, an old lady saw them and asked the woman, "Why do you make the young one walk and carry the older one? Why don't you let the older child walk? Why?" The second wife explained, "This young child is my own son. The older one I am carrying is my stepson. His mother was dead. He needs love, so I am carrying him on the way. My own son will still have the opportunity to create happy memories with me because I am still alive. So, I am carrying my stepson." The old lady said, "I see. You can go back home. Pick some leaves from your house and build a fire. Then the measles will get away." The mother said, "Okay." The old lady continued saying, "Don't tell anyone about it. Don't tell anybody." The children's mother said, "I won't." When she went back home, she thought, "Everyone is infected. I will tell them how to cure it." She told everyone how to cure it. Everyone was safe and felt better.
