Title Kawa na ga n madat ai kanau (The brother who did not listen to his father) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a family of four. Later, the mother was dead. The father was a rich man. He was strict and thrifty. He didn't let his two children spend lots of money on unnecessary objects. The eldest child understood why the father didn't want them to spend a lot of money. He didn't spend money on snacks either. However, the younger child was spending lots of money on snacks and other things. He didn't listen to his father. When they became adults, their father passed away. Before their father died, he told them, "Don't sell this house. Please don't sell it. Even though you are struggling, don't sell this house. Build a well at the back of our house. And sell the tree logs in front of our house." They also said, "Okay. We will do it." But the younger son didn't want to listen to what his father said. He also didn't listen to his elder brother. He told his elder brother, "We don't have much left to spend." When they divided the property equally, he said, "My elder brother, I will sell everything I get. I will sell half of this house too." Then the elder brother said, "We should listen to what our father said. He told us not to sell this house. Let's do it like this. Take all of my money. And give me this house." The younger brother agreed with his brother. He took all the money and spent as much as he wanted. He was so happy. He also used drugs. Later, he died because of the disease. When he died, the elder brother was struggling to survive. But the elder brother didn't sell the house. As his father said, he built a well. When he built a well at the place where his father pointed, he found lots of gold. And he cut the trees down to sell the logs. Then he found lots of money in the tree. Then he thought, "My younger brother died because he didn't know when to stop and how to spend money." He held a prayer ceremony for his late parents and brother. Later, he got married and lived his life happily.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,524 translations are currently available (February 10, 2025). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
