Title U hkan nu (The bird mother and her children) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a chicken family. There were four chickens in their family. They lived near the forest. One day, the eldest chicken told her mother, "Mom, I want to eat fried snacks." The middle one also said, "Mom, let's make it now." The youngest also said, "I even want to eat it now. Let's make it now." Then, they went into the forest to collect some wood. While they were collecting wood to build a fire, an eagle flew toward them. The chickens were scared and called their mother. The eagle asked them, "What are you doing here? Why are you making a mess here?" He asked them while they were collecting the wood. He asked them, "What are you guys doing here?" The mother chicken said, "We are finding some wood to fry some snacks." Then they continued doing their work. He told them, "Okay. Do it quickly and go back home quickly." The chicken family quickly collected the wood and went back home. After making the snack, they didn't want to share it with the eagle. They didn't want to share it. They quickly ate the snack hid inside the pot. Later, the eagle came to them and shouted, "The chickens! You lied to me that you would leave some snacks for me! Where is the snack? Hey! Where are you guys? Come out!" The mother chicken told her babies, "Don't give a response! Stay in silent. Don't even fart." They were hiding secretly. Then the eldest one said, "Mom, I want to fart quietly." The mother stopped her and said, "No. Don't fart." Soon, the second one said, "Mom, I want to fart too." The mother chicken said, "Don't fart. If you do, the pot will be broken. Then the eagle will eat all of us." But the baby chicken said, "Mom, just very quietly. I can't endure my fart." Then she farted out loud, and the pot they were hiding inside was broken. The eagle was mad at them and ate them all. This story is about why the eagle eats the chicken. To this day, the eagle eats the chicken.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,497 translations are currently available (January 30, 2025). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
