Title Lagawng ai ma (The lazy child) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
A long time ago, there was a family in a village. They had a child too. The mother carried him for twelve months in her womb. And she gave birth to him. The baby had had long hair and teeth since the time he was born. He was lazy, but he was strong. One day, the parents called him, "Let's clean the weeds on the farm." He said, "Yes." And he carried a big knife and went there with his parents. While his parents were cleaning the farm, he was sleeping. When they called him to eat lunch, he woke up and ate it. While they were eating lunch, the father told him, "You were just sleeping without doing any work." He told his father, "Don't worry, dad. I will clean the whole farm. You two go back home and take a rest." About ten trees were cut when he cut them once. Another ten trees were cut when he waved the knife one more time. He finished cleaning the farm in a short time. His mother told him before she left, "Carry some wood when you come back." Then, he pulled one tree from the root and took it home. He carried the tall tree with its branches and roots. The villagers were shocked and surprised. They were jealous and made mischief. They told the parents, "Your son doesn't do any good to you. He is such a lazy boy. And he is just a ghoul! He's gonna eat us all." In fact, the boy was indeed their son. However, the parents were suspicious of their son because of the villagers' words. They were getting scared of him since he could clean the whole farm in a short time and could carry the tall tree alone. They were convinced by the villagers and decided to abandon him in the forest. They put poison in the boy's food and brought it on the way to the forest. They thought, "Die after eating this poisonous food." They trusted the villagers' words. On that day, they told their son to go to the forest. Then, he told them, "Mom and Dad, I want to sleep more." They told him, "Don't forget to follow us." He said, "Okay." He just lied and didn't go there because he was too sleepy. The parents told him, "Here. Bring these packs of food when you come." He unpacked the food beside him and slept there again. He was sleeping the whole day. While he was sleeping, the dog ate that food and died of poison. When his parents came back, their son was alive, but their dog had died. They were afraid to tell their son the truth. They told him, "My son, the villagers told us that you were not our son. So, we planned to kill you." The boy knew the truth and said, "Mom and Dad, don't kill me. I know I am lazy. But I promise I will take care of you two till you die. So, please don't kill me." After a few years, he became a grown man and became the village chief. He put the villagers who made mischief between him and his parents in jail. He told them, "You are mean and unrighteous." Despite being lazy, he ruled the village fair. When a tiger was attacking the villagers, he killed the tiger and saved their lives. When some people were invading their village, he killed them bravely. He also looked after every villager warmly. He got married to a woman. He ruled the village with justice and lived happily with his family.
