This story is about how wicked and mean the wife was. A long time ago, a man and a woman got married. The wife had a paramour. She always nagged her husband, "Why don't you sleep at the field when you work there?" Actually, she just wanted to spend the night with her paramour. So, she always nagged her husband about her dislike toward him. She said, "Some men know how to trade and earn some money. What about you? You don't know nothing!" The husband said, "Where is the investment? What do we have?" She said, "There are many birds! You can catch them and sell them in Shan village. They like birds." He said, "Okay. I will catch them." In the past, there were lots of crows in the mountain area. He set the trap to catch the crows. Later, he had caught two crows. He took those two crows to sell at a Shan monk. The monk asked him, "What are you selling?" He said, "I have caught two crows. I am not sure if you want to buy them. I am coming here to sell these crows because I need some money." The monk said, "I want the crows, but there are much valuable gold and jewelry at your home. Go back home quickly. There will be lots of gold at your house." On the other hand, his wife was committing adultery. The man witnessed his wife cheating him, so he shouted, "Open the door!" The paramour didn't know where to run or hide, so he just hid inside the bamboo mat. The husband went into the house and saw the mat. He thought, "That might be the valuable thing that the monk said." He walked into the house and took some bamboo split. And he tied the mat up with the split. He thought to sell the mat to the monk. He tied it up tight. His wife was scared that he might find out the fact that she had the paramour. She was worried and thought, "What should I do now?" Then, she went to the village chief. Her husband didn't even sleep and tied the mat up. He just sat next to the mat. The woman called the chief and her paramour's parents. She thought she needed to call them to save the young boy. So she went to the chief to ask for help. Also, she went to her affair's parents. The chief came to the man's house and said, "What happens? I heard that you tied the boy to the mat!" The man said, "No, I didn't. I am going to sell this mat to the Shan monk tomorrow. He said he will give me money." The chief said, "Something is not right. Your wife has an affair with that boy in the mat. We should solve this problem." The man said, "Okay. If you can give me as much as I want, I will release the boy. If not, I will go sell the mat to the monk tomorrow." He said like that. The paramour's parents refused to give what he wanted. Then the man said, "Fine. Then I will have to call my brothers to make a decision according to customary law." He called his brothers and tried to impose a fine for the affair. He asked for five or six items of valuable things as a fine for having an affair with his wife. The paramour was released after giving those items to him. However, the man divorced his wife. He remarried and lived his life prosperously.
