Title Marip ni mahkri n mai sha ai lam (Why the Marip people cannot eat fermented bamboo shoots) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
This is about Marip clan can't eat fermented bamboo shoots. A long time ago, there was a chief in Marip clan. But that chief was narrow-minded and mean. He ordered the villagers to make fermented bamboo shoots every winter. They put those fermented bamboo shoots in the big pits and buried them under the ground. One day, they dug a big hole and put a pit there. The chief ordered them to put fermented bamboo shoots there. No matter how many they put there, the pit was not full yet. The villagers got angry and pushed the chief down there. And then, they covered him with bamboo shoots and closed the lid tight. Since then, people who belong to Marip clan don't eat fermented bamboo shoots because their chief was dead there.

Grai nhkru aii she e mare masha ni wa yinam du shagu mahkri hkrai hkri shangun yinam du shagu mahkri hkrai hkri shangun shaning shagu mahkri hkri shangun ai da. Mahkri hkri shangun na nhkun kaba moi na ni gaw i mahkri hkri jang nam de dai hku nhkun htu na sha hkri da da re da. Dai kaw wa nhpring hkraw sai lu nhkun dai nhpring hkraw jang she "Naw htu bang mu rut bang mu" ngu tim wora ni gaw rut bang tim i nhpring ai le jan gaw du wa dai gaw nhpring hkraw wa mung nlu wa jang she ndai marip du wa hpe i dai mahkri kaw dai mahkri nhkun kaw shi hpe kanawng bang kau na nang mahkri kaga ni bai bang ai da. Dai majaw ya daini du hkra dai marip ni mahkri nmai sha ai dai marip dingla i dai du wa dai mahkri kaw lawm mat na re da.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
