Title Ga n madat ai la kasha (Naughty girl and witch) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story is about a naughty girl. A long time ago, there were a mother and her two daughters in a village. One day, they had a Sunday prayer at home. The mother told her children, "My daughters, we have a Sunday praying at home. I will be busy working. So, I want you two go and find some banana leaves." They listened to their mother and went into the forest to collect some banana leaves. When they saw a bunch of banana leaves, the elder sister told her younger sister, "Ma Lu, don't go far away. Just stay near me." Ma Lu said, "Okay, I will." She went to the place where her elder sister told her not to go. She said, "We can get nicer banana leaves there." But the elder sister said, "Don't go. It's dangerous." Ma Lu would like to do if her sister said not to do. She thought her elder sister wouldn't allow her to go there even if she said. So, she didn't tell her sister and went that side secretly. The elder sister thought her sister followed her, so she kept going forward to collect many more banana leaves. When she noticed, she couldn't find her sister. She was worried and searching for her sister the whole evening. But she couldn't find her. When she saw a street, she thought, "I will go this way to find my sister. She might be there." It was getting dark as she was finding her sister. Then, she took a rest for a while on her way. There were a grandmother and a young girl near the place where she took a rest. She saw them and thought, "She could be my sister. I also need to ask for permission to get a chance to sleep there for a night." Then, she walked toward them and saw that the young girl was her sister. She was happy to see her sister. And she told her sister, " "Let's sleep here, my sister. You did great that you stayed here with a grandmother. Let's rest here for tonight." The sisters didn't know the real identity of that old woman. At night, the grandmother told the younger sister, "Sleep with me." The younger sister was still young, so she slept with the grandmother. The elder sister slept in the other room. At midnight, she heard the sound like 'hkrawp, hkrawp, hkrawp'. So, she asked the old grandmother, "What sound is that, grandmother?" The grandmother said, "Oh, it's the sound of grinding teeth." But the elder sister was suspicious and peeked through the bamboo wall into her younger sister's room. Shockingly, she saw that the old grandmother was eating her sister's legs. She was scared and thought of how to escape. She kept silent for a while and said, "Grandma, I want to pee." The old woman said, "Okay, go outside if you want to pee. Take this thread when you go outside, so that you won't lose your way." Then, the girl took that thread and tied it at a tree outside. And then, she ran away. After a few hours, the grandmother knew that she ran away. So, she chased her. The girl arrived at a house and asked for help. Then, the woman from that house put a frying pan on the fire and let the girl hide somewhere in the house. Later, the old grandmother arrived there and asked the housewife of that house, "Do you see a girl passing here?" The elder arrived at that house and asked for help from the housewife. Then, the housewife quickly prepared a pan and put it on the fire. When the old grandmother asked her if she saw a girl passing here, she told the old grandmother, "If you can do what I ask, I will let you know where the girl is." The old grandmother asked her, "What should I do? I have power." The housewife said, "Okay then. Make yourself bigger and taller." Then, the old grandmother made herself taller. The housewife said, "Yes, you have power. Then, make yourself smaller." The old grandmother made her body smaller. At that time, the housewife quickly picked her up and put her into the pan. The old grandmother was dead. She could save the girl. And she sent the girl back to her mother.
