Title Hkra pu n rawng ai lam (Why cicadas do not have intestines) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I am going to tell you is why a cicada doesn't have any intestines. Once upon a time, there was a big, fruitful banyan tree in a village. There were a monkey and a cicada on that tree. It was a hot day. The monkey was peeling the banyan fruits while sitting near the cicada. As the weather was too hot, the cicada was buzzing noisily. The monkey was shocked and dropped his fruits. That fruit dropped exactly on the deer's head. The deer was shocked and ran away. It ran toward the winter gourd field and stepped on it. Then, the winter gourd was rolling down the hill. There grew sesame plants at the base of the hill. Since the winter gourd was rolling down the hill, it crashed most of the sesame plants. Then, the elephant that was sleeping there was shocked and woke up. When it opened its eyes, many sesame seeds went into its eyes. It couldn't see anything. It quickly ran to the stream to wash its eyes. There was a frog that was under a stone near the stream. The elephant was in a rush and stepped on that stone. Then, the frog under the stone was stepped. So, its intestines were out. The frog was angry and went to the judge to find justice for it. The frog said to the elephant, "You stepped on me, so all of my intestines are out! Give me back!" The elephant denied, "No, it is not my mistake. The sesame seeds were in my eyes. I couldn't see anything because of them. So, I ran to the stream to wash my face." Then, the frog went to the sesame seeds to ask for its intestines. The sesame seeds said, "We were just inside the bud. At that time, the winter gourd rolled down and crashed us. So, we were out and accidentally went inside the elephant's eyes. It's not our fault." Then, the frog went to the winter gourd and asked, "Why did you roll down the hill?" The winter gourd explained, "I was with my mother plant at that time. But the deer stepped on my vine. Then, I was away from my mom and pushed down the hill." Then, the frog went to the winter gourd and asked about it. After hearing the winter gourd's explanation, it went to the deer. The frog asked the deer, "Why did you run around the field? Many bad things happened because of your careless action!" The deer explained, "It's not my fault. I was just sleeping under the tree. At that moment, the fruit fell right on my head, so I was shocked and ran." The frog asked the fruit then, "Why did you fall right on the deer's head?" The fruit said, "It's the monkey that dropped me." The frog asked the monkey, "Why did you throw the fruit on the deer's head?" The monkey explained, "I was just eating the fruit happily. The cicada suddenly buzzed loudly right into my ears, so I was shocked and accidentally dropped it." Then, it asked the cicada, "Why did you buzz suddenly?" The cicada said, "Because I was bored." The frog said, "Many bad things happened because of you! You said that you buzzed because you were bored. But now? I lost my intestines. Give them back to me." The judge said to the cicada, "Right. Give your intestines to the frog." Since then, the cicada doesn't have any intestines.
