Title Num lahkawng lu ai la (The man with two women) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, a man had two wives. The first wife was hardworking, while the other wife was super lazy. The first wife was hardworking, but she was ugly. The second wife was gorgeous, although she was lazy. The husband was always finding fault and blaming the ugly wife. He always took his beautiful wife wherever he went. Then the ugly wife had to do all the household chores. One day, the husband let them compete against each other. He told them to compete by making threads. The second wife was smart and honey-tongued. She always took credit for something that the first wife had done. Then the husband saw her as a good and hardworking wife. He told them, "Let's see who is hardworking or lazy." They had to compete by making thread from cotton. The first wife was fast and could make lots of thread. The lazy wife couldn't get a lot, she got only one hank of thread. So she just made it look nice. On the due date, the husband called his two wives and said, "The time is up. Show me your thread." The hardworking wife took all the hanks of thread out of the basket and said, "These are all I have made." It was a heap of threads. The second wife, who had only a hank of thread, pretended she had gotten a lot. In fact, she illuded her husband's vision. However, her hank of thread looked really nice. Later, they had to weave by using their thread. The first wife had weaved a lot of blankets, but the husband blamed her. He told her that her thread was like a hemp rope. He was intentionally trying to find her fault. He continued, "Your thread is not nice at all. You are making a hemp blanket, aren't you?" The first wife could weave many blankets. However, her husband couldn't be satisfied. So he beat her up. Since that day, the first wife didn't want to work hard for him. She just ran away from him with a depressed mindset. Day after day, the husband didn't have anything to eat or dress since he had to spend his days with his lazy wife. Then he thought, "My first wife works really hard. I should find her and take her home back." He started his journey to find his first wife. When he arrived at a field, he asked the owner, "Did you see a woman who is wearing a hemp blanket?" The owner said, "No, I didn't. But I saw a woman who was wearing a nice and beautiful cotton blanket." The husband regretted his action after hearing what the owner said. He was in a deep thought: "That is also a new blanket, of course." However, he couldn't get her back anymore.
