Title Shinggyim la kasha hte baren shayi (The human boy and the dragon girl) with English translation and notes
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I am going to tell is about a human boy and a dragon girl. Once upon a time, a boy fell in love with a dragon girl called Ja Nan. Later, they two lived together. When they lived together in a house, he got the smell. Since Ja Nan was a dragon, the smell of dragon from her was really strong. He didn't like that smell. But he didn't tell a word to his wife even though he didn't like the smell from her. But he got the smell everyday, so he couldn't stand it anymore. Then to get rid of the dragon's smell from his wife, he took his wife to the mint farm and let her pass the farm. Even though he let her pass through the mint farm, the dragon's smell wasn't totally got rid. Since the dragon's smell didn't go away, he took her to the chili farm again. Although he took her there, the smell was still strong. Then, he took his wife to the eggplant farm again. However, the strong smell from her was still the same. Finally, he took her to the elephant grass field and let her walk through the field. When he let her cross the field, his wife's strong smell was totally disappeared. In the times of worshiping Nat spirits, we Kachin people used elephant grasses during wedding. We put those elephant grasses on the ground and put a piece of flat wood between them. And we let the bride walk through them. The reason why we let the bride walk through is that to disappear and be able to overcome all of the bad things, hardships and difficulties after she crossed that. This is the end of the story.
