Title Nam San mare a labau (The Dragon Legend of Namsam Village) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story that I am going to tell you is based on the truth, and it truly happened in Namsam village. A long time ago, in the earlier days of Namsam village, the villagers divided the lands and founded the village. There were a father and his two sons. They built their house and then went to look after the cows. One day, when they were coming back from the farm, the youngest son was caught by a dragon that lived in a cave. The father did not know that his youngest son was missing. He still thought his son was behind him, so he kept walking. The elder son also thought the same as his father and kept walking. When they arrived at their house, they just realized that the youngest one was missing, and they were searching for the boy. There were four men who walked past the cave. They saw a dragon sitting in front of the cave. When the four men saw the father and his son searching for the boy, they told them, "My friend, we saw a dragon sitting in front of the cave when we walked past. It seems like the dragon has taken your son!" The father was concerned when he heard it. So he went to a shaman and asked him about his son. He got to know that the dragon truly took his son. The father requested the shaman to talk with the dragon. The dragon said, "If you want your son back, you must give me what I request." The father replied, "Just tell me what you want. I will try to fulfill as much as I can." It said, "If you want your son back, you must offer me a white chicken, a white pig, and a white cow." The father told it that he would try his best to give offerings and then went back home. The next day, he let the shaman offer the white chicken, white pig, and white cow to the dragon in front of the cave. Even though they offered those things, the dragon did not let the son go and still kept him. The father was very upset and angry at the dragon and the medium. He felt like going crazy because the dragon fhad still taken his son. He was angry more and more. He could not control his anger anymore, so he insulted and cursed, "You kidnapped my son! You will never escape from this cave! The rain shall be heavy, and the lightning shall strike the cave!" As soon as he cursed, there was a heavy rain, and the lightning struck the cave. Then, the dragon could never escape from the cave. There is still that cave in the upriver area of Namsan Hka. I just want to share the history with you.
