Title Ma Gam hte Ma Naw (The elder brother who tested his younger brother) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi Awng)
The story I am going to tell is about why the siblings should love each other. Long time ago, there were two brothers: Ma gam and Ma naw. When they lived together, the elder brother showed his love to his younger brother. But the younger brother was not giving any respect to his brother and didn't care what his brother said. He was naughty. One day, when they had to go to the farm, the big brother thought to himself, "Why didn't my younger brother show any respect to me although I love him too much? May be he didn't love me." Then, he went back home from the field ahead of his younger brother. In the past, people could use a gun. On the way back home, there was a wild cat. He shot it by his gun and pulled out all the intestines from the wild cat's belly. And he applied the blood on his body and put the intestines on his belly. He was pretending like a death. Actually, he wanted to test whether his younger brother loved him or not. When the younger brother came back from the field, he saw that his elder brother was lying on the ground with the bloody body and all of his intestines were out. Then he yelled, "Something is wrong! This can't be real. Why this kind of thing happened to you?" And he picked his brother up. The elder brother threw the dead wild cat into the bushes not to be seen by his younger brother. He was not dead. He was just testing his younger brother's love for him. Then, the younger brother saw him and cried a lot. Since that day, the elder brother got to know that his brother really loved him. He adored his younger brother more than before. The younger brother thought, "If my brother really dies, I am going to lose a brother who really cares for me." And he also showed his love for his elder brother since that day. There was a saying in Kachin because of that. "The bond between the siblings is worth to keep." The intestines of the wild cat were spread out and there were no intestines inside the belly of the wild cat. There was a saying, "The liver will get hurt too if you pull the intestine." We, Kachin people, never bully when our friends or our relatives are in trouble. We always help and take care of each other. We should love each other just like the brothers from this story. This story shows us that the siblings should love and respect each other. This is the end of the story.
