Title Num kaja lu ai la langai a lam (The man who married a good wife) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
Today is 29 January 2017, and it is in Shatapru quarter in Myitkyina. The title of the story is about a man who had a good wife. A long time ago, there was a boy called La Ran who was an orphan as his father and mother were passed away earlier. As he had been growing up, he did his paddy fields and married a girl. Then, the couple only worked on the paddy fields for their livelihood. One year, they became very poor. Thus, since they did not have cattle, they borrowed from other people. They used to borrow the cattle to make the paddy fields from other people but in that year, they even could not borrow the cattle because they were very poor. So, the orphaned man worked for others as a hireling. In the day time, he worked for the owner of the hireling. At night, he worked in his paddy fields with the cattle of the owner who he worked for. He was working hard like that. So, Hpan Wa Sagya (God) was seeing him. "Why this man is working at night," Hpan Wa Sagya said to himself. One night, Hpan Wa Sagya said to the orphaned man that "Hi man, why you are working at night, the time that other people are taking rest?" The voice was spoken from the sky so the orphaned man was amazed and answered that "Lord, I am very poor. Because I don't have cattle to do for the paddy fields, I work for my owner's paddy fields in the day time and I work for my paddy fields at night time." Then, Hpan Wa Sagya said that "If so, go to your house. Do you have seven years old alcohol?" "Yes, I do have," the orphaned man answered. Hpan Wa Sagya asked again that "Do you also have seven years old chicken?" "Yes, I have, Lord," the orphaned man answered again. "OK, go to your home and make cleaning around your house. And, drive pegs into the ground all around your house and pour the seven years old alcohol there. Also, kill the seven years old chicken. If so, we will come and visit your house tomorrow night," Hpan Wa Sagya said and the orphaned man said OK. So, the orphaned man stopped his work and returned home and told his wife. "Wife, do we have seven years old alcohol?" the man asked and his wife said, "Yes, we have." The man asked again that "How about seven years old chicken?" "Yes, we have," the wife answered. The man told his wife about what he was told from the sky and they prepared as the man was told to do. On the next evening, when the couple was waiting, seven guests were coming to them. When the seven guests got to the couple house, the couple also warmly welcomed them and prepared to serve food. But, the guests seemed very tired and they just went to the beds that were prepared for them. After the couple prepared the food, they called that "The food is ready. Let's eat now," but all the guest were sleeping then. "May be they are coming from very far and very tired. That's why they just fall asleep," the wife said to herself and just left them. On the next morning, after they prepared well the food, the wife went to them to call again but it seemed that they were still sleeping. So, the wife told her husband that "Husband, go and see the guests. Why are they still sleeping?" When the husband went to them and removed the blanket, it was full of gold. From that day, the couple got rich very much. So, from the following year, they did not need to borrow the cattle again for their paddy fields. Because they were working hard and honest, they were blessed.
