Title Law hpa ai brangtai a lam (The greedy rabbit) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Today is January 15, 2017. I am going to tell a story called "A greedy rabbit." Once upon a time, there was an old grandmother in a village. She went to the field. In the highlands, people always take their bamboo baskets when they go to the field. That grandmother also took a bamboo basket and went to the field. She worked the whole day there. She weeded the grass in the field. As the older people could work the whole day, that grandmother also cleaned the field and worked there. When it was dark, she went back from the field. When she went back from there, she picked some bananas and other fruits for her grandchildren. She picked those and put them in her basket. There was a banyan tree on her way back home. She saw that a rabbit was hiding under the banyan tree. That rabbit was so cute and adorable. Then the grandmother immediately put that rabbit inside her basket. She took it to her house. It was lucky for the rabbit. Since it was hungry, it ate the bananas from the basket. It didn't eat all. It left some bananas. Since it ate a lot, it felt a stomachache. Then it rested for a while. When it felt better, it jumped out of the basket and ran away. While it was running away from the grandmother, it met its rabbit friend. Then its friend asked it, "Why are you running with a happy face?" It answered happily, "Today, I was so hungry and sat under the banyan tree. While I was sitting there, one grandmother saw me and put me inside her basket. There were lots of bananas inside it. I got to eat those bananas." Then its friend thought, "Umm, I could eat too." So, its friend went to the banyan tree the next day. And it sat under the banyan tree and hid there. The grandmother also came to her field as usual. When she came back home, she carried many fruits in her basket as well. On her way back home, she saw that the rabbit was hiding under the tree. Then she picked the rabbit up and put it inside her basket. Then the rabbit ate the bananas. It kept eating bananas, although it was already full. At that time, the grandmother thought to herself, "Yesterday, the rabbit was gone when I looked inside the basket at my home. So, today I will take a look before I get home." When she looked inside it, she saw that the rabbit was still eating bananas. So, she killed the rabbit and took it to her house. Then she cooked and ate that rabbit. The moral of this story is that we could lose our lives if we are greedy. In this story, the second rabbit didn't stop eating even though it was full. It kept eating till there was no banana left. At last, it was killed by the grandmother because it was greedy. This is the end of the story.
