Title Hkau na galaw ai matsan wa (A farmer entertaining guests) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
I would like to tell you a story. Would you like to listen? The story is about a poor farmer. Once upon a time, there was a poor farmer in a village. He did not own any farms. He had to rent a farm from the others. But he couldn't pay for rent. He didn't have enough money to pay back for the buffoloes which he rent. So, he worked for the farm owner in the daytime and ploughed for himself at night. One day, a deity transformed as human and came to him. The deity said, "We will be guests at your house tonight. Raise some sticks around your house. Do you have a seven-year-old chicken and pig? Prepare a seven-year-old fermented rice for us." And he walked away. At midnight, the poor farmer went back to his house. He discussed with his wife, "My wife, do we have a seven-year-old chicken?" His wife said, "Yes, we do." He asked her again, "Do we have a seven-year-old pig?" She said yes. He asked, "What about seven-year-old fermented rice liquor?" She said yes. The next morning, he ploughed his farm for the farm owner in the daytime and worked for himself at night. When he got back home at night, there arrived seven guests at his home. The guests were already asleep. While they were sleeping, the farmer and his wife prepared meal for them Although they had already cooked everything, the guests were still asleep. They thought, "Let's treat them when they wake up." The next morning, the guests didn't wake up. Then, the poor farmer and his wife wondered why the guests didn't wake up. They already prepared breakfast for them. So, they decided to wake them up. And they lifted the blanket. Surprisingly, there was only gold under the blanket. They were surprised and overjoyed. All the guests under the blankets turned into gold. When they looked outside their house, there were full of buffaloes and cows. They were so happy and told this good news to their neighbours. The neighbours were surprised too. The chiefs said, "We should act like this. We have to offer this gold to the king ." Then, the poor farmer, his wife, the chief and other three men from the village went to the palace. When they arrived at the palace, the king asked them, "Where did you get this big amount of gold?" The poor farmer said, "Last night, we had seven guests at home. In the morning, they turned into gold." The king said, "I will not give this gold to you. You two come stay with me in the palace." The farmer said, "We are afraid we can't. We have many buffaloes and cows too." Then, the king took two golds and gave five golds back to the farmer. The farmer and his wife sold those five gold and some buffaloes. They got rich. Later, they had got two sons and two daughters and lived happily. If we really work hard, GOD will bless upon us and help us. This is the end of the story.
