Once upon a time, there lived an old couple in a village. The couple didn't have any child. They did shifting cultivation for a living. Since they didn't have children, they were so friendly with the animals. One day, they planted the taros in their shifting field. However, it never turned out well. The old couple thought the taro couldn't grow well. They had never considered that the monkeys would dig and eat all the taros. When the couple was having a conversation about their taros, a group of monkeys came to them. They said, "Grandpa and grandma, you should grow the taros after boiling them." Then the grandma said, "Honey, we should grow as they said. Boil first and plant." However, the grandma doubted the monkeys because she had never heard planting taro after boiling. She decided to try it anyhow. The grandpa and grandma grew the boiled taros. After that, they hid and peeked behind the bushes near their field. They were waiting to see who would come and eat their taros. But they had no clues the monkeys, their friends, would eat them. Soon, what they called their friends, the monkeys brought their baby monkeys and ate the taros. When the couple saw it, the grandma said, "We were troubled by these monkeys. I wondered who ate our taros, but I didn't think the monkeys would have ours." The old couple trusted the monkey, but they cheated them. In Burmese, it is called "pulling the snake". The couple also did as the monkeys instructed. Then, the grandpa asked, "How should we do now, honey?" The grandma answered, "Darling, let me think first. We should make rice wine." So, both of them cooked rice and fermented it. When the wine was ready to serve, the grandma made a plan. She said, "Honey, let's hold a party and invite the monkeys. We will serve them with rice wine. When all the monkeys get drunk, I will sing a song. The lyrics will be like, "Get up, get up honey, close the door and cut the monkey's head, head." When the time I sing this song, the monkeys would be drunk and lying. So, you beat the monkeys till they all are dead." The grandpa also agreed to do it. And the couple invited all the monkeys to their party. The monkeys went to them happily. The old couple also served them with the rice wine and its paste. Since they didn't know the old couple's plan, they ate and drunk a lot. After a while, they all were drunk. At that time, the grandma sang, "Get up, get up honey, close the door and cut the monkey's head, head." She sang that song two times. Then the grandpa closed all the doors and windows and beat them dead.
