Title Shalawa a lam (The gluttonous old man) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
A Long time ago, there were two men; one was a strong man who thought he was, and another was a gluttonous old man who was greedy in eating. The gluttonous old man left the message to the strong man, "If you truly are the most muscular person in the world, come to me." - so the strong man went there. "Do the job as I ask you to do." said the gluttonous old man, and he showed a heavy block of rock. "If you can pick it up, squeeze and break it, you are the strongest and most energetic man." said the greedy old man. At that time, the strong man could break that rock. The greedy man told the strong man, "If you are so strong, come and hold my hand." - the strong man held the greedy man’s hand and shook, then he flew away to nine hills. After him, another man came and told him that he was also the strongest man in the world. The second man plucked the trees lightly, and he lifted the houses and threw them away. The greedy old man told the second man, "If you are the most powerful man in the world, come and sit in front of me." - then he sat in front of that greedy old man. The greedy old man blew the air from his mouth and the second man flew away to nineteen hills. Soon after that, the third man came and said," I am the most muscular person in the world." He also sat in front of that greedy old man. "You are such a strong man in the world." said the greedy old man, and as he breathed in, the third man went into the greedy old man’s stomach. Just like this story, although we think that we are rich and have the knowledge, there are richer and more knowledgeable than us. In this short story, we learn about the people who know more than us, and they know which we do not know.
