Title Bau lagu ai myi di langai a maumwi (The blind man who stole a drum) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
The title of the story is a blind man who stole a gong. Long long ago in a village, there was a blind man. Because he was blind, people used to give him whatever they had such as fruits. The blind man was pitied by the people. But, one day, since the blind man was too greedy and wanted to rich a lot, he stole a gong from a house. Then, he put it into a big bag and ran away. When he ran away, he fell into a lup hka (Lup Hka is a drain that was dug by surrounding a grave.) The blind man was just walking in the lup hka and he thought that he reached quite far but it was not. He thought that walking in the lup hka, again and again, reached quite far so he said to himself that "Let me play the gong that I stole to know how much it is good," and he played the gong. Thus, the villagers heard the sound of the gong from the edge of the village so they went to see what it was. The lup hka was on the edge of the village. When they got there, they saw that the blind man was playing the gong. So, they asked the blind man that "Hi blind man, where did you get this gong?" The blind man said that "I am wrong. I stole it. I thought that I have reached quite far so I played the gong but I just understood that I am in the lup hka. So, you all heard the sound of the gong that I played. I am repented now." That's why our ancestors said that "Don't be like the talk of the blind man who stole a gong."
