Title N kaja ai hpang num (The bad second wife) with English translation
Description Translation (Seng Pan)
A long time ago, a man had six daughters. Since the wife didn't give birth to a son, he always beat her. So, the wife's parents took her back home. After a while, the man married a young girl. She gave birth to a boy. However, she never cooked the fish for her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law even though she had got a lot of fish. She only prepared small land leeches with chilies for them. Since the mother and grandmother had poor eyesight, they ate what she prepared. But they couldn't chew it as the food was leathery. The more they pulled the leech, the more blood it sucked. So, the grandmother said, "Son, come here awhile. The fish which your mom and I have is so leathery. We couldn't cut it. Our teeth are not strong anymore." When the man checked the curry, he found out it was the leech curry. Therefore, the mother and grandmother called the elders from the village, and the mother requested, "When we die, please don't need to touch our dead bodies." The mother died first. Before she passed away, she left a word, "When I die, let my daughter-in-law beautify my dead body." So, the wife changed the clothes of her mother-in-law. Since she couldn't hold her tears, she cried and kissed her mother-in-law's cheek. At that time, her face was stuck on the cheek. This was the problem caused by the second wife. The man tortured the first wife since she didn't give birth to a son. That's it.
