Title Hkrai Naw hte Hkrai Gam (Hkrai Naw and Hkrai Gam) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
It is a story of Hkrai Naw and Hkrai Gam. There were Hkrai Naw and Hkrai Gam who were brothers. They lived with their mother and did not have a father. They had not seen their father since they were born. So, when they played with others in the village, they were told that they were brothers who did not have a father. That's why they wanted to show that they also had a father. So, when they became adults, they said to their mother that "Mother, please show us our father." The mother did not talk about anything. But, the more they got older, they kept asking their mother that "Mother, if you can't show our father, we will kill you." So, their mother said that "If you two want to see your father, go and clear the farm next to the Mali river. Plant pumpkin there." Thus, they went and cleared the farm because they wanted to see their father and they planted pumpkins. Later, the pumpkin blossom time had been reached. Their mother said that "The person who comes in the pumpkin blossom time will be your father." So, they went to their farm but they saw no one. When they went again next time, a dragon was sucking the pumpkin blossom. "What did you see, sons?" the mother said. "We don't see anything but only a dragon was sucking the pumpkin blossoms," the sons answered. Then, the mother said that "That is your father. I married the dragon." It was because the dragon transformed into a human and lived with their mother and got the two of them. "That is your father," the mother said. "Really? If the dragon or whatever is our father, we have to show others. So, let's stop him. If we can't stop him, let's tie him," the two sons said. So, they forged iron. There is a big flat stone called Sumhting Jung next to the Mali river until today. They forged iron because they planned to tie the dragon with the iron. At that time, a fish came out from the river. The fish called Nga Htang said to the two brothers that "Hey... don't forge the iron there. If you two forge there, our authority feels headache. He asks not to forge the iron there." "What are you talking about?" the two brothers said and slashed the fish with the iron so the lips of the fish, Nga Htang was curved until today. They continued to forge the iron and later, another fish, Nga Rat Nga Swi came again. "Hey you two, don't forge there because our authority who live inside the river said he feels headache a lot," the fish, Nga Rat Nga Swi said again. "What you are talking about?" the two brothers said and stabbed the fish with a sharp awl. That's why Nga Rat has a hole until today even though the other fish do not have a hole. It was stabbed by Hkrai Naw and Hkrai Gam. Later, a shrimp came out and said as previous fish. So, the two brothers slashed the shrimp and the shrimp lied on its back and turned red. That's why the shrimps turn red when it is cooked today. Another fish came out again but the two brothers did the same as before. Then, they had done making the iron rope. Later, the pumpkin blossoms were bloomed again and their father came again. So, they tied their father and attached the dragon with trees and stone. When they tied in the tree, the tree was removed, and again, when they tied in a big stone, the big stone was also removed and they also tied in a ped that was driven strongly in the ground but it was also removed. The dragon was struggling to free. Then, the two brothers said that "You are our father. That's why we tie you because we have to show you others." So, their father, the dragon said that "If you two were my sons, you can't get me if you just tie like that. I will tell you. If you want to get me, you have to tie in the Nji Nam. Nji Nam is a small plant that grows next to the rivers, which has small leaves. Even you can't tie me with the big tree and big stones, if you tie me in the Nji Nam, you will get me." So, the two brothers tied the dragon in the Nji Nam and the dragon can't struggle anymore. The two brothers said that "You are our father." Then, the father gave Hkrai Naw a bow called Bum Tawng Ndan, which can divide even a mountain and an arrow. The father also gave Hkrai Gam a sword called Bum Tawng Nhtu, which can even cut a mountain, and a gold Chying boi, which can measure the gold. The father said that "Let's meet all again in seven days. I will bless you two then. Come to me with banana rafts then." So, the two brothers came with banana rafts. Hkrai Gam was not as smart as Hkrai Naw and less intelligence then Hkrai Naw. So, Hkrai Naw was in front with the bow and Hkrai Gam was in the back with their respective rafts. At that time, their father, the dragon suddenly appeared between the two rafts. Hkrai Naw knew it was their father so he was about to say 'Don't do' but before he could say anything, Hkrai Gam slashed the dragon to death with his sword. Because they killed their father accidentally and did not know what to do so they put the body of their father in the confluence. That why's we call today Tang Hpre Zup. After they killed their father, their rafts were also floated. The raft of Hkrai Gam was going upstream and the raft of Hkrai Naw was going downstream because the two rafts were split when Hkrai Gam slashed their father. Finally, they both reached the river bank respectively. After several years. Hkrai Naw said to himself that "It is not good to stay like that. I should find my elder brother," and he went upstream to find his elder brother. When he got to a river after Mali Nmai confluence, he met with a monkey. When he saw the mother monkey, the monkey was holding the gold Chying Boi that was given by their father to his elder brother. He asked the monkey that "Hi mother monkey, how deep is this river?" "Deep deep shallow shallow about the middle of the thigh," the monkey answered. "Hey monkey, tell me well," Hkrai Naw asked again. But, the monkey just answered again that "Deep deep shallow shallow about the middle of the thigh." No matter how many times he asked, the monkey kept answering "Deep deep shallow shallow about the middle of the thigh." So, Hkrai Naw got angry and shot with his bow so the monkey was dead. He also did not know that the monkey was the wife of his elder brother. He took the Chying Boi from the monkey and continued to find his elder brother. Then, he found his elder brother on the tree together with monkey children and the elder brother was splitting the bamboo into strips. He immediately understood that the monkey he shot to death was his elder brother's wife but he did not say anything. Then, the elder brother said that "Don't you see your sister-in-law?" "No, I did not see. But, I saw a monkey mother who was just saying deep deep shallow shallow so I shot the monkey. He was also holding this gold Chying Boi," the younger brother answered. The older brother felt sad but he did not say anything and was just thinking of revenge on the younger brother because the younger brother killed his wife even though they were brothers. But, they lived there together and one day, the elder brother said that "Younger brother, you are stronger than me and also more intelligent than me. Since you also have the bow and are good at hunting, I just found a wild boar nest. Let's go and wrestle the wild boar. You wrestle it as you are strong." The elder brother lied to the younger brother because the elder brother showed a fake wild boar nest and he asked to wrestle the nest. But, it was not a real wild boar nest and it was an empty hole. The younger brother jumped into the hole and fell down inside the hole. That's why there is an empty hole in Daru mountain until today. Although the animals could come in and go out in the hole that the younger brother fell down, the human could not come in and go out. So, the deer was asked to carry the younger brother to go out from the hole. The deer said to the younger brother that "Don't say about you get deer smell." Thus, the younger brother was carried on the deer and he did not say anything even though the smell was very serious. But, when he was about to reach the gate of the hole, he accidentally said "I got the deer smell." So, the deer shook his body and the younger brother was fell down again to the bottom of the hole. Porcupine also carried the younger brother and told him not to say the smell of the porcupine but the younger brother said about the smell of the porcupine when he almost reached the gate of the hole. So, the porcupine shaook and he was fell down again. The barking deer also happened the same. Finally, the younger brother was carried by a shrimp and came out from the hole. After he came out from the hole, he walked and got to a village where a lot of people were gathering. So, he looked at why the people were gathering. He asked a widow for food and asked that "Why the people are gathering there?" The woman answered that "It is a bow pulling race. It is organized by the chief of the village. They said that the winner will get a big gift" And, the race was with his bow so the younger brother knew and said that "I can pull the bow." "No, you can't pull the bow. Even very strong men could not pull the bow. How you such a weak man will be able to pull the bow?" the woman said. The younger brother said to the woman that "No, I can pull the bow. Please go and tell the organizer." So, the woman went to the organizers and said that "There is a guest in my home. He said that he can pull the bow." The organizers said the woman to bring the younger brother. Then, the younger brother easily pulled the bow even though other strong men could not pull it. Then, the younger brother was also shooting the trees, and all the trees were broken one by one. Finally, the younger brother knew the tree that his older brother was hiding so he shot the tree and his older brother was killed there. Because the older brother was killed, the younger brother became the authority. Later, a hawk that took and ate the babies became a high risk for the village. The hawk was very aggressive. The hawk quickly took the babies even within a very short period without a guardian. And, the babies were put in a very deep nest. The people also could not see the hawk to shoot. Only one or two persons also did not dare to go because of the risk of the hawk. But, the younger brother knew how to catch the hawk. It was not OK to shoot one time because the hawk went to hide in a very deep nest. So, the younger brother cut the bottom of the trees that the hawks were staying. When the villager yelled about a baby was taken by a hawk, the younger brother knew that the hawk would return to the tree so he was hiding and waiting for the hawk with his bow. The hawk returned to the tree but the leaves of the tree were getting wither because the younger brother cut the trees at the bottom. So, he could see the hawk now and shot the hawk to death. The hawk was killed and no more baby was missing. Likewise, when a tiger became a risk for the village, the younger brother killed the tiger again as before. So, he was living there like a king. Later, in the plaw where the hawk was killed, a big mushroom was grown. Some people notched little part of the mushroom and cooked and ate. It was very delicious. After the cap of the mushroom ran out, some people took the stem of the mushroom and cook. It was also very delicious. Some people took parts of the mushroom under the soil and it was also very delicious. Then, people were jealous because the people who took cap parts thought that the stem parts might be more delicious. The people who took the stem part of the mushroom also thought that the cap part of the mushroom might be more delicious. The mind and spirits of the people from this side reached the other side. The mind and spirits of people from the other side reached this side. Since then, the nat with power to bewitch humans began after the people at the mushroom.
