I will now tell you the story of “The Diligent Old Woman.” Long ago, there lived a very hardworking old woman. She had two children. The mother and her children were all hardworking, but their life was very poor. The woman wanted to feed her children good food, and dress them in nice clothes, but because of their poverty, she couldn't do as she wished, and lived with a heavy heart. One night, she had a strange dream. In her dream, an old man appeared and said, “You and your children must leave this village.” “Go to the village two or three villages ahead.” “There, you will find a large rice field.” “Work there.” “You will surely succeed.” When the woman woke up, she found it hard to believe, but staying here offered no hope for a better life. So she decided to follow the dream's message and leave the village. When she reached the place from the dream, she found a small hut and a large rice field. When she knocked on the hut's door, an elderly man appeared. The woman said, “We have come here to work.” The old man asked in a loud, harsh voice, “What kind of work can a woman like you do?” The woman explained that she could plow the field, harvest the rice, and even sell it. The old man pointed to a small hut for them to stay in, and said, “Start working tomorrow.” At that moment, the woman thought, “Oh my, he wants us to work starting tomorrow?" “Even though these days have been so hot...” “But we must do our best.” The next day, when they began plowing the field, the heat softened, and rain began to fall. Day after day, the mother and children worked hard, and the rice grew strong and healthy. When harvest season came, the same old man appeared and said, “You have worked very well.” “When you finish selling all this rice,” “bring the money to me.” The woman thought, “The dream said we would succeed...” “But this old man wants all the money...” “Well, either way, we must keep working.” She pulled herself together, and they put work above all else, sold the rice, and earned a large amount of money.
