Title Myit Galu Ai Num A Lam | The Patient Woman
Description Translation (Lazing Htoi San & Keita Kurabe)
The story I'm about to tell is "The Tale of the Patient Wife." Long ago, there was a patient and wise woman living in a household. In other households, quarrels never ceased, but in her household, there was never any fighting. No matter how much her husband tried to find fault with her, she always responded with patience, and they never ended up quarreling. One day, the husband decided to pick a fight with her. He said, "Today, I'm going to hit my wife," and came home carrying a wooden stick. But the wife said, "Oh my, you must be so tired," "and yet you still brought home a stick for me!" She was delighted that he had brought it home. So the husband was left speechless. Another time, the husband thought, "Today, I'll definitely get her into a quarrel," and went out to collect some river snails. He only brought home empty shells that people had already eaten. But before cooking, the wife noticed and said, "Oh my, these river snails have nothing inside!" So she prepared one of their chickens, sliced the tender and delicious parts of the meat, carefully stuffed each piece into the river snail shells using chopsticks, and cooked a delicious dish for that night. That evening, the husband said, "Tonight, we'll definitely fight about those river snail shells I left this morning!" But when they sat down to dinner, and he tried one of the shells, he found that there was meat inside. So he couldn't start a fight after all. He realized how wise and patient his wife truly was, and from that day on, he never tried to provoke her again.
