Title Jau gawng hte sanam num a lam | The hunter and the witch
Description Translation (Rita Seng Ma & Keita Kurabe)
The story I am telling now is about a hunter and a witch. Once upon a time, there was a hunter. All he did for a living was hunting. One day, when he went hunting he accidentally met a witch. When the witch saw him, she wanted to follow him. "Uncle, I will follow you and stay with you." The hunter, said "No!" "Why do you want to follow me?" "You can't!" He said to the witch. But the witch only wanted to follow him. He could not continue hunting. He said to her, "I have a wife and children at home." "You can't." "You can't follow me." He said, temper tinged. But the witch said, "I don't care." "I want to follow you." "I will be your second wife." She said to him. She said so much that the hunter had no choice but to take her home. He took her home. The old Kachin houses were long houses. People lived in long houses. He gave her a room which was in the back of the house. He let her live there that way. The hunter's family often pounded ginger and ginger wort and ate it. They pounded garlic and ate it. The witch could not stand the smell. Then she thought, "I tell them not to eat ginger and garlic, but they don't listen." As a hunter family, they pounded and ate ginger and garlic every day. The witch could not stand the smell. Finally, she went back to the forest. This is how the people of old told the story. In the past, women usually tied their hair when they cooked. We call those people who untie their hair a witch. Thank you.
