Title Wunpawng mung na hka nu masum a lam | Three sister rivers in Kachin land
Description Translation (Htoi Awng & Keita Kurabe)
I will talk about the three sister rivers in Kachin State. There are three rivers in Kachin. They are said to be sisters. They are the eldest, the second, and the third. The eldest sister's name is Mali Jan Kaw Gawng. The second sister's name is Nmai Jan Lu Yawng. The youngest sister's name is Hkrang Jan Roi Tawng. One day, their parents told them to get married. The two elder sisters were shy. They did not answer quickly. They did not give any answers. The youngest sister said, "I'm going to get married." She was a tomboy. The parents let her get married first. Since she got married first, when people call the three rivers, they call the youngest sister's name first. Since she is a tomboy, she flows with great force. She makes loud noises, "Woo-woo-woo-woo." She is very impatient. She has a short life span. She flows into her sister Kaw Gawng at an early stage. The second sister Nmai Jan Lu Yawng got married to Nmai clan. She is calm and gentle. But, she is not as gentle as the eldest sister. She is not as tomboyish as the third sister. She makes some noises like her younger sister. She flows into the eldest sister above Myitkyina. So she lives a little longer. The eldest sister, Kaw Gawng, is the politest and gentlest one. Her two younger sisters flow into her, and becomes the Irrawaddy River, the lifeblood of Myanmar. People praise her a lot. She flows into the sea.
