The story I am going to tell you now is about a man who constantly abused his wife since he assumed he was the strongest man, and he let his wife find the stronger man. Their family turned into an unhappy family. So, the wife looked for the strong man in tears. Since the man thought that he was the strongest, he would not hit the wife if she could find the stronger one. Therefore, the wife went out of the house and searched for a strong man. Although she looked for that person days and nights, she couldn't find even a single one. She went into many villages. When she arrived at a village, she met with a chameleon. The chameleon asked, "My lady. Why are you crying around?" "My husband told me to find a person who was stronger than him. He said he would kill me if I couldn't find it. And he abuses me every day. That's why I am looking for a stronger man," the wife replied. "I'm so sorry for you. Let me help you. Bring your husband to me," the chameleon said. Then, the wife felt so happy and ran back to her home. As soon as she saw her husband, she said, "Honey. I found someone who is stronger than you. Come with me!" The husband also followed after her. "Are you the strongest? Stronger than me?" the man asked the chameleon. "Yes, I am. You said you were strong. Let me see how strong you are! Hold my tail tight!" the chameleon said. The man also grasped the tail tightly. Then, the chameleon waved his tail. The man was thrown in the air and fell in the seventh or eighth village. When the man reached near a sea, he saw a person who knocked on a big tree with the forehead. He was a bit frightened. In a village, he found a man who was compressing an elephant by clutching its tusks. After he had seen those, he realized that he was not the strongest, and there were many people who were stronger than him. From that day on, his family became happy again. Therefore, you should not think that you are the strongest, the smartest in this world. I want to stop the story here.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,426 translations are currently available (October 19, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
