Title Nga hkwi ai wa (The fisherman) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a fisherman. He built a small hut near the water and lived there. He made a living by catching and selling fish. He sold his fish to the villagers and made a living. He was a poor man. One day, he got a big fish. Surprisingly, the big fish could speak. It said, "My boy, please free me. Set me free." He said, "Why should I? I will get some money to eat after selling you. So that I can survive." The fish told him, "Tell me the hardship you are facing. Tell me. I can help you." He told it everything. Then it took out one of its small bones and gave it to him. And it said, "If anything comes to your mind or you want something, just draw it on the ground by using this bone. Then it will really happen to you." It gave the bone to the man. He cured the fish's wound that caused by his fishing net. The wound was cured. He was so happy to receive the bone. It told him, "But do everything in moderation. Don't be so greedy. It won't be good for you." He said, "Okay." He thought to himself, "I have been fishing the whole day. I am hungry. I want to eat corn." He drew a picture of corn on the ground. He got to eat many corns. He ate the corn till he was full. After eating, he was lying down and looked at his hut. He noticed that his house was full of holes and the roof was torn as well. He thought, "I need a house." He drew a picture of the house. He got a nice house right after he had drawn. He drew everything he wanted every day. He drew pictures of gold and other jewelry. Later, he became proud and arrogant. The big fish told him, "Don't catch any big fish." But he didn't listen to the big fish. Then he went to the river to catch the fish. He caught the fish and killed them. He was already rich, but he still caught and killed fish. He was ungrateful. Therefore, the fish took the bone back while he was sleeping. He became as poor as before. So, people should not be too greedy and should be moderate, even though you are rich.
