Title Mashang Mazut hte nat jahtung (Mashawng Mazut and the Jahtung Nat spirit) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Once upon a time, there was a man called 'Mashang Mazut' in a village. This is the story of Mashang Mazut and the forest guardian nat, which usually asked for offerings. The forest guardian nat was greedy and ate a lot. He was not contented with the offerings from people. So, he asked for food from his nat friends. Before he could even repay the debt, his son was ill. He needed to find food for his son too. At that time, people came to the forest and prepared to offer pigs and chickens to nats. Then, the forest guardian nat also went to his neighbour and borrowed a dried gourd water bottle. And he was waiting for people at the junction. But no one appeared even after some time had passed. At that time, Mashang Mazut walked past there. Then, his nat friends told him, "Don't do anything to him. He is such a bad guy. Don't tease him." The forest guardian nat said, "If he is a bad guy, I am more than him. I can do worse than him. Now, I have a lot of debt. I need to pay some eggs to my neighbour back." The nat put his dried gourd water bottle on Mashang Mazut's head. Suddenly, Mashang Mazut felt a headache. He thought, "I don't have a headache at first. I wonder why I feel a headache while walking in the forest." So, he pulled his knife out and tried to knock his head with it. The gourd was about to break. Then, the forest guardian nat said, "I couldn't repay the eggs yet. Look like I need to repay that gourd too." His friends told him, "We told you not to put the gourd on Mashang Mazut's head. Remove it quickly." Then, the forest guardian nat quickly removed the gourd. Mashang Mazut didn't feel a headache as soon as the gourd was removed. The forest guardian nat always avoided Mashang Mazut. We shouldn't be afraid of nats. When we wave knives or spears, nats will feel afraid. This is the end of the story.
