Title Yi sa jan du ai num (Faceless ghosts) with English translation and notes
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I'm going to tell is about "a woman who goes to a field". Many years ago, one woman went to the field. While she was in the field, she was busy working. Then, it was getting dark. Her friends, since it was getting dark gradually, didn't wait for her and went back to their homes. The sky was already dark. Though she was scared, she had to walk back to her home alone. On her way back home, she saw a child. Then, "Hey, little kid! What are you doing there? I am getting late to go back home from the field," she asked that child. That child kept crying and crying without saying a word. Then she told, "Let's go! Let's go! I will take you to your parents." When she carried that child, she saw that there were no eyes, nose or mouth on that child's face. The kid's face was completely dark and cried out loudly. She was frightened and shocked, then she put the child down and quickly ran away. Then, when she was far away from that kid, she saw that a woman was walking with a shoulder yoke. She called that woman, "Hey! My pal! Wait for me." And she told that woman about the boy whom she just met. "I've just met a child. But there are no eyes, mouth or anything on that child's face! His face is totally dark and flat!" she told that woman. But strangely, that woman didn't take a look at her. She told, "My friend! Wait for me, please." Then she repeated about the boy whom she met two or three times more. But the woman didn't look at her yet. Then when she repeated about him for the third time, that woman looked back at her. And that woman told her, "Look! Like me?" When she looked at the lady, she saw that the lady was the same as the boy. There were no eyes, mouth or nose, and her face was completely dark. Then she was so scared and ran straightly back to her home. When she arrived home, she was dead since she was too scared and frightened. This is the end of the story.
