The title is about an orphan who lost his parents, but he had a wonderful wife. Once upon a time, the orphan wanted to work on a farm, but he did not have a cow. He was so poor that he worked on the other farm as a servant. He worked the daytime on his boss's farm. He worked on his farm at nighttime. In ancient times, there was no electricity like nowadays. So he lit bamboo torches and tied them on tree stumps to get the light. He worked like this almost every night. The child was very tired and exhausted, so the creator saw him and took pity on him. One night, he thought he might have done a unit farm after working for a while. The creator came to the orphan boy as he had compassion for him. "Hey, my child, why do you work on the farm during nighttime?" asked the creator. "Oh, I am very needy. Although I want to work on a farm, I don't have a cow." "So I work during the daytime for the owner of cows, and I work on my farm at night," the orphan replied. The creator continued asking, "Do you have a chicken aged seven years old?" The boy answered, "Yes, I have." "Do you also have a seven-year-old alcohol with a glazed jar?" asked the creator. He responded, "Yes, I have." Actually, he did not have anything. The creator said, "Alright then. Tonight, seven of us will come and visit your house." He responded, "Alright. Surely can." He was worried that if he said, "I don't have those," they might not come to him even though he did not have chicken and alcohol, as he liked the guests very much. He insisted on saying, "Yes, I have." On that night, he went home earlier. He told this to his wife. "My wife, I met a man who told me this and that today. There will be guests coming tonight." "He asked me if I had a seven-year-old chicken then I said yes." "Then he asked me if I had a seven-year-old alcohol in a glazed jar, so I said yes." "My child's mother," called the orphan boy. (They did not have any children but might have in the future. So the husband called his wife like that.) "Find the seven-year-old chicken and kill it, then prepare it nicely. Place the alcohol and wait for the guests to come." The husband told his wife. The wife searched for the chicken as her husband told her to. She killed the chicken and cooked it nicely. She also placed the alcohol jar pleasantly. The guests arrived very late at night. The couple waited quite a long time for them, although they had done their dinner and waited. The guests arrived at their house after it was dark. While they waited for their guests, the people reached their place late at night. The couple borrowed blankets for their strangers. They asked their guests to wash their feet and hands. The husband said, "Alright, alright, please rest for a while." The guests rested as soon as they arrived. They slept straightaway after that. They did not have their dinner but slept at once. They only told the couple like that, "Thrust a peg into the ground," the guests only said to them. "We are going to rest for a while." The couple woke them up to have dinner, but they did not wake up. The house owner thought they might be exhausted and traveled from quite a far place, so they did not wake them up. All the guests slept without eating anything. The couple prepared food and strong drinks for their guests the following early morning and waited for them. Although it was getting bright and late in the morning, their visitors did not wake up. The couple were amazed, "What has happened to the guests from last night?" When they quietly went to the guests and turned the blankets, the visitors were not humans but gold stones. They were surprised, "How could it have happened like that?" They went outside and saw cows and buffaloes tying them firmly on the ground. Many cows were hitching here and there in their front yard. They thought, "How is it happening now? We got a lot of gold and cows." The couple became so wealthy that they did not need to work on a farm anymore. "Our ancestors told us that there was a creator." "The creator might make and give them to us by those guests, my wife." When the husband said that, the wife replied, "Yeah, that could be right." "From today onwards, we will be very rich." "Shall we help those who are like us?" The couple lived happily ever after. Here is the end of the story.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,437 translations are currently available (November 23, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
