Today is the year two thousand sixteen, January fifth. The story is about a poor child. Once upon a time, there were two siblings in a family. The two brothers were the big one, 'Ma Gam,' and the younger one, 'Ma Naw.' The big brother had a destructive mindset, but the younger brother had a great mind. The two brothers lived together with their mother. One day, their mother was reaching the time to pass away. So she called her sons, Ma Gam and Ma Naw, and told them a message. The mother had a farm and a dog. As Ma Gam was bigger than Ma Naw and his mind was also not good, he wanted the farm. Thus, his mother desired to give it to his brother Ma Naw. Their mother was the mother of them, so she wished to give them both equally, but she had only one farm, so she could not hand it over to both of them. Mother divided for them. She passed the farm to elder brother Ma Gam and the dog to younger brother Ma Naw then she passed away. Ma Gam worked on his farm, and even though Ma Naw did not have money, he worked with his dog. Ma Naw worked on every other people's farm with his dog in his village. He labored on every other's farm and kept all his wages, and one day, he could buy a farm for himself. He worked day and night with his dog, became immensely wealthy, and gained much money and jewelry. His elder brother was jealous of him and thought, "Why did he become so rich? I want to know why." Then he went to his brother. "Hey, my little brother. When I look at you, I see you grow in your wealth. What made you come to be so rich?" he asked his younger brother. "Oh, my elder brother, I have this dog which my mother gave me as an inheritance, and I work with it on the farm, so I become well off," Ma Naw answered his big brother. When the elder brother heard the answer, he asked, "If you said so, please lend me your dog for a while. I will try working with it on my farm." The younger brother had a good heart, and the one who requested his dog was his brother; therefore, he lent it. After getting the dog, his brother worked on his farm with it. But the dog did not work properly as it knew it was not working with the owner. The dog did not want to work with the elder brother and scratched the ground here and there. The big brother was furious and shouted, "This dog doesn't want to work with me." Then he hit it and forced it to work. The dog died soon after it was hit so hard. Ma Naw waited a long time to get back his dog and thought, "Oh, my brother worked on his farm for two, three, and four months. Until now, he hasn't returned my dog to me yet." Thus he could not wait longer and went straight to his brother's house. "Brother, give me back my dog. You borrowed from me quite a long time, and I think your farm is almost done," Ma Naw demanded. "Your dog is disobedient, so I hit and killed it," his elder brother replied cruelly. Ma Naw was very unhappy when he heard this, and he cried, "Brother, the dog that you hit and killed was my only birthright. It is the only treasure that my mother gave me. Where did you bury my dog?" Ma Naw said sadly. His brother replied, "I threw it away over there." It was thrown in the lake beside a farm. The younger brother went there, and he grievously took the dog that was already swollen, bloated and smelly. After that, he brought it home and buried it next to his house. One day, a golden bamboo was grown from where the dog was buried. Only for one day, that golden bamboo was taller and so high. It was big and tall in a short while, so he was very pleased about it. A bird rested on that gold bamboo tree. That bird also sang sweetly while it was on the tree. After that, it shited, and its poop changed to gold. Ma Naw happily picked that gold then sold it and was richer again. His elder brother heard this, and he was envious again. Ma Gam went to Ma Naw and asked, "What do you work so that you are rich?" Ma Naw explained all the things about why he was wealthy again. "If you said this, can I come and pick that bird's shit from the gold bamboo tree in one morning?" Ma Gam asked. "Yes, sure you can. You can take bird's poop." Ma Naw let his brother do. When the elder brother grabbed the bird's shit, it did not turn to gold, but it remained as the bird's poop. Ma Gam raged, saying, "It just gives me only this bird's stool." Then, he took a knife and cut down the bamboo tree straight away. As his brother cut down the gold bamboo tree, Ma Naw was so sorrowful again. Even though the elder brother bullied the younger brother, Ma Naw's mind was kind-hearted, so he did nothing to his brother. He was not revenge-minded. He humbled himself and stayed quiet. Ma Naw was so miserable and picked up the pieces of a gold bamboo tree and put them in the fire. But the firewood of bamboo trees did not finish. When the fire was set only once, it was burning and never ended. The fire was not very big and very valuable during the winter. At that time, Ma Gam did not work on his farm correctly. He lived with his evil mind, and he did not gather the firewood for the winter. When he was facing trouble, he went again to his younger brother. His brother let him pick the wood, "Alright. You can get the bamboo pieces there." He took them greedily and made a fire when he got home. Nevertheless, the fire was massive, and he could not control it. Therefore, it burnt down all his belongings and wealth. At last, Ma Gam lived his life poorly, and Ma Naw lived richly. The end.
