It is my pleasure to present this book to the Lau community in Malaita. This small project is the result of collaboration between hard-working people. First of all to Meli, who is a wonderful story teller whose humour has not gone unnoticed. To my faithful transcriber Phyleep, who has done an excellent work in revising the text again and again; your patience is proverbial. To Vik for her drawings; you took a leap of faith when agreeing to be the illustrator for this story. Big thanks to Kara Rasmanis for her practical support. My thanks also go to the people of Taba`agere Centre near Takwa who hosted me for many months and to The Australian Linguistic Society for providing financial help for the production of this book.
It is my hope that this book will contribute to the preservation of the Lau language and will be read in kindergartens and schools in the Lau area. Hopefully, many other books will showcase the richness of the Lau culture. |
