Collection Information
Collection ID CCLD01
Collection title Milang vegeculture and language (tree fern, sago and yeast)
Description This deposit is the outcome of a six-month project by Abraham Modi "Food-making process from TATCHI (tree fern)". Abraham Modi set out to document the traditional Milang process of extracting food starch from tree ferns, but also took the opportunity to document sago harvesting and use, and also the traditional manufacture of yeast. The project took place in and near the Milang village of Moobuk (Peki-Modi). The deposit consists of a self-introduction by Abraham Modi, who is a native member of the Milang community and native speaker of Milang, followed by 24 file packages as follows:

Items 01-12: Ferntree
Items 13-18: Sago
Items 19-24: Yeast

Items 01-12 include annotations as the primary aim of the project. The remaining items have not yet been annotated.

Some filenames have been adapted. Original filenames are in the spreadsheet "CCLD01-00-filenames", which may be found in the self-introduction section (Item 00).

This project was mentored by Yankee Modi, and funded by a 2022 FLICR Fellowship awarded to the collector by the Centre for Cultural-Linguistic Diversity (Eastern Himalaya) (Co-Directors Mark W. Post and Yankee Modi, Associate Directors Kellen Parker Van Dam and Zilpha Modi). Financial support for the 2022 FLICR Fellowship program was provided by the Firebird Foundation for Anthropological Research, through a grant administered by the University of Sydney.
