Re-opening of Santa Ana Custom House , Tape 3, OTP 117
TAPE IDENTIFICATION
TAPE., 3 OPENING DAY ( more dances and interviews)
1. Sound of Ulawa singers and dancers (but too much description of the action of dancers by Simon spoils the recording). The action is probably not in the film.
2. Sound of Nataghera singers (part of the recording is alright but this too has a lot of talking by Simon). A drilling bird dance by Nataghera dancers with special shouts by the dancers mainly as a show off to the spectators.
3. Santa Catalina dancing again. Women echoing back in high tone as they clap their hands and go low down to the ground in their actions.
4. Joins Nataghera dancers again...- a man with a bow and an arrow and dances round the dancing women. Then the second man appears and joins him in the dance. ( I cannot remember seeing them in the film)
5. Iterview by Simon with village headman Alfred Ta'asi who explains the dances his group (Nataghera dancers) had performed.
(not in the film)
6 Ulawa dancers .... men singers and women dancing and clapping.
7. Santa Catalina dancers . Similar style with previous recordings with women, singing a chorus back.
8. Interview by Simon with ram Standley , one of the men singers for Santa Catalina dancers. Standley explains how the Santa Catalina group travelled in canoes to Santa Ana to attend the occasion. (not in film)
9. Join. Santa Catalina dancers again.
