We pound salt and chilli. Our stomach cannot resist chilli when we get older. It is too spicy. But we ate when we were young. Some are eating green chilli by toasting with the salt. Then they eat the dried chilli too. Everyone eats chilli. If we do not put chilli in our dishes, we just eat spicy chilli alone. But chilli is not growing well in some places in our highland area. The Japanese already arrived at the places where we have just talked about. The chilli is growing well in the upper area of Njang Yang. There are aplenty of chillies around this season. There are aplenty of small chillies. They don't even need to plant. The birds ate small chillies. The birds ate those. The small birds called Kataw ate those and just spread the feces on the farm. Then, chilli plants were growing from the waste the birds produced. There is a lot of chillies somewhere. There are a lot. People from lowland area grow chilli plants in a farm and sell them in the market. There don't grow chilli plants in some part of our highland areas. So, we have to buy chillies from the others to eat. And there are many kinds of chillies. There is the lion chilli. It is really big and very spicy. It is said that that chilli can even make people feel extremely hot. There are around ten kinds of chillies in the highland. There are small chillies, white chillies, green chillies and very long chillies too. There is an abundance of chillies in the highland.

N dai shara mi an kajai ai shara de Japan ni du sai, N Jang Yang lahta kaw gaw majoi mi yi kaw majoi mi hpa she n di ai, ya hte rai sai. Mana maka noi ai. Majap kaji ni. Dai gaw shan hte hkai n ra ,U ni sha ai gaw. U ni sha ai she. Kataw ngu ni U ni sha hkrai sha wo hkyi nye tawn na yi hkyen dat jang mi tsun ai zawn shi chyu tu wa . Shara mi kaw mana maka nga ai. Collection title Kachin culture and history told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin culture and history in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, and Labang Tu La as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar between 2017 and 2020. A total of 263 stories with 263 ELAN files, 263 transcriptions, and 15 translations are currently available (September 20, 2021). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Galang Lu Hkawng, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
