Description |
This is an introduction to priestlings' education in Buddhist temples. In the past, every Awa boy will be sent to a Buddhist temple to study. The learning contents are not restricted to Buddhist scriptures. The senior monks also allow these priestlings to choose other subjects they are interested in, such as herbs, crafts, etc. After months to years, most young men will choose to resume secular lives. The Buddhist temple is like a school to some extent. But girls weren't allowed to go to the Buddhist temple and were educated at home informally. |
