Description |
Recorded in 1950 from a wire recording
Brere Awol of Tainyapin village in the Malol area along the Aitape coast of Sandaun Province (West Sepik) was a traditional head man of Molol people and villages, a politician elected into the PNG Parliament pre-independence 1975 to the House of Assembly. As a Member of Parliament, Brere received a Queen’s honour MBE.
In the wire recordings, there are women singing ancestral songs to their young children or babies when they are crying after they are disciplined for being naughty or up to mischief to their mothers. The songs are intended to stop them from crying more or any longer. These women are Malol people speaking the Malol language (mbk).
