Description |
These films were produced by Margaret Carew/Batchelor Institute in partnership with Bábbarra Women's Centre in Maningrida. English translations by Murray Garde. Some films are subtitled, others not.
2017 films - these films show women from the Babbarra women's centre with their artworks and discussion about them. The women speak mainly in Kuninjku or Kune (dialects of Bininj Kunwok), & Burarra, with some English. The films are compiled from video and audio files recorded at Bábbarra Women's Centre in Maningrida along with some on-country footage taken on a day trip to Mumeka crossing. The women's centre footage is primarily interviews with additional shots of women working on fabric printing. There is a longer set of shots of Deborah Wurrkkidj collecting pandanus and talking about her country. There is a filmed and audio recorded interview with Janet Marawarr in which she discusses her kunkurra 'whirlywind' fabric design.
There are eafs with some of these files, linked to audio exports of the video. These log the content by topic only with a couple of exceptions.
2018 films - these were mainly about Ngaldjolhbo, a spirit woman told by Janet Marawarr and Lennie Goya-airra. There is a film about yawkyawk 'mermaid spirits' and some discussion about Babbarra exhibitions and events. |
