All items 008 were recorded at Kampung Tumboh Hangat, Perak, Malaysia on April 12 2017. These recordings were made with Semai language speakers in Kampuk Temboh Bekèèt (Kampung Tumboh Hangat), Perak Tengah, Malaysia. Interviewees are Andak a/p Itam Dris, Bah Aim a/l Andak, Long Lela Bt Itam Saleh, Jasmani Mat Jalak, Jusri A/L Anjang. Cultural topics covered: healers, shamans, ceremonial traditions; fermented cassava; porcupines; Story of a place called Lesung; changing traditions and importance of maintaining them; village origins; a traditional story about Perak River; death and funeral practices pre-Christianity; naming practices; personal narratives (childhood memories; Japanese and Communist times). The recordings were made under a Project funded by the Fundamental Research Grant (FRGS/2/2014/SSI09/UTP/02/1) 2014-2017 from Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. The Project leaders were Dr Sumathi Renganathan (Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS) and Orang Asli community leader/head man Tok Batin Jasmani A/L Mat Jalak, with Dr Inge Kral (The Australian National University). |
