Title Cultural activites and memories recorded for book project
Description All items 007 were recorded at Kampung Tumboh Hangat, Perak, Malaysia on April 11 2017. These recordings were made with Semai language speakers in Kampuk Temboh Bekèèt (Kampung Tumboh Hangat), Perak Tengah, Malaysia. Interviewees are Long Lela Bt Itam Saleh, Itam Wok Bt Alang Mat Yit, Rosmanita A/P Osman, Jantan a/l Jelatik, Itam Tun A/P Kelub Jasin, Itam Binti Pandak Nordin, Irati a/p Jantan. Cultural topics covered: fishing nets, blow pipes and uses; use of handmade dishes for food, seeds etc; tools (baskets and axes); traditional hunting; blowpipes and poison; traditional herbs and medicines, weaving palm leaf mats, childrearing; traditional medicines and taboos associated with childbirth; personal narratives (childhood memories, work, Semai identity, religion). The recordings were made under a Project funded by the Fundamental Research Grant (FRGS/2/2014/SSI09/UTP/02/1) 2014-2017 from Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. The Project leaders were Dr Sumathi Renganathan (Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS) and Orang Asli community leader/head man Tok Batin Jasmani Mat Jalak, with Dr Inge Kral (The Australian National University).

Description IK2 is a collection of video and audio recordings and stills collected in 2014 and 2017 with Semai speaking Orang Asli villagers in and around the village of Kampung Tumboh Hangat in the state of Perak in Peninsular Malaysia. The recordings document Semai language and culture. The collection includes two edited films that are a compilation of selected excerpts from the entire 2014 data set.
