Description |
The data for this dictionary was collected by Calvin Roesler, MA over 42 years of residence among the Asmat people. He planned to prepare the dictionary when he retired but just when leaving Indonesia, he passed away. To preserve this work, his wife, Ruth Roesler recorded his material, recognizing her limitations linguistically and computer-wise, and accepting responsibility for inadequacies. Meanings in the national language, Indonesian, were included whenever included in the data. A separate section, Asmat-Indonesian-English has been made available. The value of this work would be greatly enhanced if all of the Indonesian meanings could be added by a speaker of both Asmat and Indonesian. |
