Title Kanu a ga n madat ai ma (The child who did not listen to the mother) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I am going to tell is about a child who didn't listen to his mother. He had a mother and a sister. They lived in the beautiful house happily. The house where they lived was such a mansion and it was like a painting. The child was about 4 years and a preschooler. He was very young. There were plenty of toys in their house. He could play any kind of toys in his house. The mother prepared everything for him. The mother made him happy. One day, his mother and sister went to the market. They walked to the market. It was a bit far from their home. It took around an hour to go and back. They bought some food. Then, it was taking some time. They went to that kind of market which was far away. While they were going to the market, they left him alone at home. But, he was not the age whom should be left at home alone. Since there were many toys in their house, the mother thought that the child would play with the toys and wouldn't go out anywhere. So, she left the child at home. And she told the child, "Today, me and your sister will go to the market. There are many toys which you can play with. Play with those toys while we are going to the market. If you got bored of playing with toys, eat these foods." And they went to the market. It took a long time in the market. They were buying things in the market. Meanwhile, the child was playing football because he was bored of playing the other toys. While he was playing with ball, the ball was out from the house. The ball was out from the house and stopped at corner. But the boy still wanted to play the ball. Earlier, he was playing inside the house. When the ball was out, he wanted to take it and play with it outside. Then, he went outside and played with the ball again. He was playing outside the house. Then, he kept playing with the ball. While he was playing, the ball fell into the ditch. He felt happy playing outside the house and just kept walking Then, he reached a garden which was a bit far from his house. It was the sweet potato garden. When he was in the sweet potato garden, he didn't know that it was sweet potato garden because his mother fulfilled everything for him. He was just playing everywhere in the garden and was very happy. He pulled out the roots of sweet potato plants and saw the sweet potato tubers. He knew that those were the tubers which he had eaten before. So, he ate those sweet potatoes. He pulled one root after one root and ate one after one. And he kept playing in the garden. After few minutes, the owner of the garden came there. Then, the child tried to run away. The owner screamed, "Who stole my sweet potatoes? Who pulled out my sweet potato roots? You little thief who stole my sweet potatoes!" And he tried to catch the child by holding a long knife. The owner kept catching the child, and the child kept running away. While he was running away, he saw a pit. Then, he jumped into it and hid there. He jumped into the pit and hid inside it. The field owner was still following to catch by holding a long knife. And he hewed anything he saw. Then, the cut of the knife hit the pit. It was broken, and the child was very shocked. And he ran away again. He lost the way while he was running away. At last, he saw the way to his house and ran back home. At the same time, his mother and sister got back home from the market. And they were looking for him too. While they were searching him everywhere, they saw the child running back home and looked exhausted. The child arrived home by calling, "Mom! Mom!" His mother said, "What happened, my baby?" He answered, "I almost die today. I reached to a garden while I was playing. The owner of the field followed me and tried to hew me by a knife!" The mother regretted her action when she heard what the child said. And she told him, "I will not leave you alone again." She considered that she shouldn't leave the child at home alone, and children were happier outside than inside the house. After that day, they went out together wherever they went. She tried not to have the danger for her children. In the end, they lived happily together for the rest of their lives.
