Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The second story is about otters which lived in water and gibbons with long tail which lived on mountain. They made friends. While they made friends, the gibbons told, "My friends, otters which live in water, we, gibbons, will bring bamboo shoots when you die". Then otters also told, "My friends, gibbons, we, otters, will bring big fish when you die". Then when the gibbon which lived on mountain was dead, the otters couldn't bring any fish since it was rainy season, water level was increased and water was not clean enough to find fish too. And when an otter was dead, since it was winter and there didn't grow any bamboo shoots, the gibbons couldn't bring any bamboo shoots. Then they couldn't keep the promises they had made when they made friends. Our elders usually say that if someone is dead in an unexpected time and we can't afford to help, then we couldn't keep promises no matter how we have made promises.
